EBay won't allow virtual items on site

Citing ``complex legal issues,'' eBay has decided to yank auctions of virtual items garnered from popular online games such as ``EverQuest'' and ``World of Warcraft.''

For years, players of online games have traded unreal goods for real money. The items, which are often difficult to come by in the games, can be used to give players' online characters an edge.

The items have no physical properties, so they often are delivered in the games themselves. Payment, though, is real -- usually by credit card or PayPal.
