All about game modding

Lots about game modding in the news lately, thanks to last week's release of the "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas'' video game, rebranded with an Adults Only rating.

Dean Takahashi in the San Jose Merc: Pressure on game publishers intensifies.

The Merc's readers also weigh in.

Meantime, an anti-game crusader is pressuring Electronic Arts to take action against those who modify another game, ``The Sims 2."

Hey video game industry, welcome to the culture wars, where freedom to mod offends the moral puritans and control freaks throughout the land.

You'd probably deridingly brand me a "moral puritan", but you're missing the point by labelling folks as a way of attempting to silence them.

People want to be able to have some reasonably standardized way of understanding what their kids are seeing a viewing. It's not enough to simply tell folks to monitor their kids. Fifteen year olds are not home 24x7, and so it's reasonable to ask that people tat peddle trash like Grand Theft Auto properly label it so that my well trained kids know to avoid it if they see it at an aquaintence's house.

Oh please "Phil".

Most parents don't even pay attention when they're buying those very games for their kids. Trust me, I used to get yelled at by parents for not selling little Johnny adult rated content when he threw a coniption fit to get it.

Society shouldn't raise kids, parents should. If you can't trust your kid to handle what he sees, that's your fault as an inadequate and insecure parent, not mine as a consumer and citizen.
