Mash-up playlist
I spent a few hours putting together a playlist that I thought attendees of the citizens media gathering and "Darknet" book release party would enjoy. The turnout was larger than I expected, so the noise level obscured most of the songs.
We began with several cover songs -- after all, what's a better example of a remix? -- before seguing into deep and illicit mash-up territory:
Cover songs:
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole': Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Charles Brown: 'Round Midnight
Miles Davis: Paper Moon
Reel Big Fish: Brown Eyed Girl (ska)
Celia Cruz: Yo Vivire (I Will Survive)
Social Distortion: Don't Drag Me Down
Mash-ups:
Run DMC/Aerosmith: Walk This Way
Suzanne Vega/DNA: Tom's Diner
Soulwax: Push It/No Fun
Elvis Presley/JXL: A Little Less Conversation
DJ Danger Mouse: What More Can I Say (hip hop Beatles)
Green Day vs. Oasis: Boulevard of Broken Dreams (check out the comments here -- unbelievable)
Nelly vs. The Cure
Destiny's Child vs. Pink
EMF vs. Beyonce: Unworkable
Outkast vs. Eminem
50 Cent vs. Aliyah
Beatles Mash-up Medley by Hank Handy (download mp3)
Rx: Dick Is a Killer (download the mp3 from Ourmedia)
Rx: Sunday Bloody Sunday (download it)
Rx: My Name Is Rx (download it)
Rx: Boys and Girls (download it)
Rx: Imagine/Walk on the Wild Side (download it)
Rx: KGBtv
Catch me sometime and I'll let you borrow my iPod for a listen.

I was given the Dean Grey "American Edit" album a few months back and it has been in rotation on my iPod ever since. It, to me, is the best example of what is possible, and what most people have to miss, because of rights issues.
