A DVD worth boycotting

Shark

One of the most annoying features of Hollywood DVDs in recent years has been the disabling of the fast forward button through previews. So in addition to paying for the rental, you're forced to sit through a six- to eight-minute commercial.

What's worse, my 5-year-old accidentally brushed the DVD Recorder's remote control after we had endured the two lame previews before watching DreamWorks' "Shark Tale" -- so we had to sit through the previews all over again.

Don't even get me started! I did a blog post http://borsch.typepad.com/ctd/2004/12/duct_tape_and_a.html that was along a similiar vein.

The more I think about this the madder I get. What if you were forced to go through a full "advertising chapter" at the start of every book?

Yet another reason to DeCSS the DVD, dump the contents on a hard disk with all the prohibited user operations (PUOs) disabled, and watch the movie from there.
